SENATE PRESIDENT CHAISSON SETS DATES FOR SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL DISTRICT 16 SEAT

QUALIFYING TO BEGIN JANUARY 14TH

Louisiana Senate President Joel Chaisson issued a proclamation calling a special election to fill the District 16 seat vacated by former Senator Bill Cassidy, who was recently elected to represent the 6th Congressional District. The primary election is set for Saturday, March 7, 2009, with the date for the general election scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2009. Qualifying for the District 16 seat begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 and ends at 5 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009.

The general election will occur in conjunction with a regularly scheduled municipal primary election, reducing the costs associated with a special election. The selected dates will also allow for the election of a new Senator to represent the citizens of District 16 in a timely manner.
