SENATE PRESIDENT CHAISSON SETS DATES
FOR SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL DISTRICT 9 SEAT

QUALIFYING TO BEGIN JULY 9TH

  Louisiana Senate President Joel Chaisson issued a proclamation calling a special election to fill the District 9 Senate seat vacated by former District 9 State Senator Steve Scalise, who was recently elected to represent the 1st Congressional District. The primary election is set for Saturday, October 4, 2008 with the general election scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Qualifying for the District 9 seat begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 9th and ends at 5 p.m. Friday, July 11th.

  Senate District 9 encompasses parts of Jefferson Parish, including the Elmwood, Harahan, Jefferson and Metairie communities. The Senate will maintain the district office to serve the needs of constituents until the vacant seat is filled.
